Dad
Daddy's Girl
My son
Children Made in Heaven

To my Father, with Love

I wanted to commit your memory to paper
I never, ever, want to forget
It made me realise when you had gone
What you give is what you get.

When I was small you seemed so large
I looked up to you in more ways than one
I never thought that you would leave me
Well, at least not quite so soon.

I was at work on the day it happened
My husband phoned, told me you were dead
My heart broke at what my ears were hearing
I couldn’t believe I’d lost you, Dad.

It’s been a year now since you left me
And I still feel like a little girl
I still hurt when I think about you
And the hole you left in my world.

I miss you more than these words can say
I always will ‘til the day I die
What hurts the most, Dad, is the fact
We never got to say goodbye.

So if you ever look down upon me
I’m sure you’ll realise how I feel
You were my Father, Mentor and Hero
You were then, and you are still.

Daddy’s Girl

To see the love between them is a joy,
Volumes said without a murmur uttered.
Bonds forged that not an earthquake could destroy,
Love that leaves their hearts pure and uncluttered.
Her coming into being sealed his fate.
From then on, hers to do with as she will.
For her, although she came to him quite late,
A life of treasured memories, none ill.
He worries so that god will want her back,
So special is she here upon his earth.
She knows that of his love she’ll never lack,
He knows he cannot tell her what she’s worth.
To her, he’ll always be life’s oyster pearl.
To him, she’ll always be her Daddy’s Girl.

My Son

It feels so strange to see you as a man
About to go and take the world by storm.
It’s time to let you fly now, if I can,
When instinct fights to keep you close and warm.
In growing up you’ve given me so much,
My pride grows stronger with each passing day.
I know our hearts will always keep in touch
If we’re apart. I’ll be there, come what may.
I’ve done my best to bring you to this stage,
Not always right, but always from my heart.
And now you are about to come of age,
Your independent life about to start.
You are, without doubt Dan, my pride and joy.
My Friend, my Life, my Son, my Darling Boy.

Children Made In Heaven

You see them playing everywhere, those children made in heaven.
They run along a sandy shore,
At ice cream time it’s "I want more!"
At bedtime, "please don’t shut the door"
From children made in heaven.

They drive you mad on cold, wet days, those children made in heaven.
"You said we could go to the zoo"
They yell, and shout and badger you,
When you’ve a million things to do.
Are children made in heaven?

You let them do it one more time, those children made in heaven.
They’re tired, hungry, "what’s for tea"?
Their little faces look and plea.
My heart melts. Did they come from me?
These children made in heaven.

And so they go on up to bed, those children made in heaven.
"I love you Mum", they kneel and pray.
"And Daddy too", the small ones say
"and God bless all who live today"
Say children made in heaven.

So off downstairs I softly creep from children made in heaven.
I know them all so very well,
Every sound and every smell.
It’s in my heart their love will dwell
Those children made in heaven.

And so they wake – a brand new day for children made in heaven.
They cry and shout and drop their toast
One looks like he has seen a ghost!
Impossible to love one most,
My children made in heaven.
