We will be highlighting the work of Kipling (Kipling Society), George Granville Barker (Tony Asprey and Elspeth Barker), Baden Powell (Scouts Ass.) and Jacob Epstein.
On 9th May, Sue Taylor will be heading a programme about Lady Mary Wroth, Sir Philip Sydney's niece, who was the first woman to publish a prose romance in England. The programme will include madrigals and readings from Wroth and her literary contemporaries, including Ben Jonson.
The provisional programme includes:
* an illustrated talk about the sculptor Sir Jacob Epstein, who lived at 50 Baldwins Hill.
* A talk about Rudyard Kipling by leading members of the Rudyard Kipling Society
* A talk about George Granville Barker (1913-91), a poet born at 116 Forest Road. We are
hoping his wife and son will attend this event and that the event will include readings of his
work.
* The Church of the Holy Innocents, High Beach are planning a concert for the 3rd May.
* A programme of madrigals, recorders and readings based on the life of Lady Mary Wroth,
her family and her friends, to include readings from Sir Walter Raleigh, Sir Philip Sidney and
Ben Jonson. Wroth was the first woman to publish a prose romance in England in 1621. She
