Suffolk

Adrian Bell (1901-1980) In 1920 Adrian Bell came to Suffolk from London (Battersea/Chelsea area), aged 19. Apprenticed to an old-style farmer, Vic Savage, (farmer appears in Corduroy as Farmer Colville), at Weston Colville near Newmarket. In 1929 moved to The Gables, Stour Street, Sudbury. Lived briefly, with his wife Marjory who he married in 1931, in a cottage in Gad's Lane, near Great Waldingfield, Sudbury. In 1932 moved to Market Cottage, Princes Risborough, Bucks. In 1938 the family moved to Redisham Old Rectory. 1943-4 Bought an 89 acres farm, Bricks Kiln Farm, at Redisham near Beccles which he sold in 1949. c1953 to a house in Northgate, Beccles. He and his family then moved first to Crakes Hall, High Common, Barsham and finally to a bungalow in Gillingham. Died in September, 1980 and buried in Barsham Churchyard.

George Borrow (1803-1881) 1840 Oulton, Suffolk, (lived at Lavengro at Oulton in Suffolk); The George Borrow, Oulton, Suffolk is a public house, named after him.

Rider Haggard, (1856-1925) ed. Garsington and Ipswich, Kessingland 1900 and bought house there

Arthur Ransome (1884-1964) bought Pin Mill, Suffolk 1945 (Oct)

Henry Williamson (1895-1977) 1945 The family moved to Suffolk
