Thomas Bewick (1753-1828) 1797 Set up in Newcastle,living at Gateshead. Died in Nov 1828 at his home 19 West Street, Gateshead (Tyne & Wear). There is a plaque and stone bust at the site of his workshop the south east corner of St Nicholas' Cathedral churchyard, Newcastle. A fine statue is situated on the wall of a building on Northumberland Street in Newcastle, about thirty foot above street level.
