| Robert Francis Kilvert (1840-79) born 3rd December 1840, in Hardenhuish, Wiltshire. He was educated privately at a small school run by his father at Hardenhuish rectory, and latterly at Claverton Lodge School, Bath, run by his uncle Francis Kilvert. He was ordained deacon in 1863 and priest in 1864, served for two years as his father's curate in Langley Burrell, Wiltshire and again 1872-76. |  Langley Burrell Rectory |
Siegfried Sassoon (1886-1967).
 | Went to Marlborough College. Sassoon married Hester Gatty in 1933, and their son, George, was born in 1936. The marriage ended a few years later. He did not serve during the Second World War, but lived quietly at Heytesbury House in Wiltshire, although he maintained contact with a circle which included E. M. Forster and J. R. Ackerley. Towards the end of his long life, he was converted to Roman Catholicism, and was admitted to the faith at Downside Abbey, close to his home. He also paid regular visits to the nuns at Stanbrook Abbey, and the abbey press printed commemorative editions of some of his poems. He is buried at Mells in Somerset, close to Ronald Knox, whom he admired.where he died in 1967, one week short of his eighty-first birthday. |
